More Stereotypes :)

Wednesday, 29. August 2007 by traak

I just overheard a conversation at a customer site here in downtown Chicago. A customer employee was talking to one of our guys (casually) and the topic went on to “cooking”. The customer employee then proudly mentioned that she cooks every day. She’s not a friend of fast food and stuff. And it’s better for the children anyway.

So far so good?!

The conversation went on… “You know”, she said “there’s this phenomenal service called ‘Home Cooking’. They prepare all the food for you, package it up and deliver it to your house. Then you just put it into the oven and you’re done.”

Yeah baby, that’s exactly what I thought when I heard that you cook everyday. Not necessarily my understanding of cooking, though.

Un-fucking-believable…

Have a good one.

Funny that I’ve been at heathrow so many times but never been in the actual city of the queen.

This is where I currently am, waiting for my connection to Germany. Will be there for a mere 2 days before heading back the land of George W.

See ya.

Batman in Chicago

Tuesday, 21. August 2007 by traak

As I stepped outside the office yesterday - for a coffee and a smoke - I didn’t believe my eyes when I saw a filmcrew setting up cameras and lights just in front of me. That’s when I recalled that the new Batman movie and also Angelina’s new one - “Wanted” - are currently being filmed here.

Some looking around quickly made clear which one it was.
Pretty amazing to see those guys at work.
And I’ll be able to say: “Mav was there” :-)

Work, Life, Fun…

Monday, 13. August 2007 by traak

Sometimes I wonder whether I have completely wrong expectations from life or whether I’m just one of those who is never satisfied for a long time.

Look at my job. Those who know me know what I’m doing and for whom I am doing it. I’ll be entering into my seventh year in a month. So far I had a fantastic career, I am on average at least 10 years younger than anybody on a similar level. I’m paid a shitload of money and I have had the privilege to live in different countries. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t want more money or something like that. It’s just that I’m not having fun anymore. I always thought that all that money is gonna compensate for the lack of fun. I guess I’ve been naïve and reality is just catching up with me.

Looks like priorities are changing. But then again, are you willing to give up income in order to have more fun? What about that huge house, all the gadgets, the designer suits etc.? Do those thinks make me happy? Yeah, but only for a very short time. But I still want them all the time. I guess I’m a consumer bitch, who slowly realizes some conflicting interests ;) and this actually within me and myself.

It’s time to change something. Well, is it gonna happen? Maybe. While I’m thinking about it, I’m wasting exactly that time I wanna spend having fun…

My parents would probably say, that life isn’t about fun. I disagree.

Welcome to Denver

Monday, 13. August 2007 by traak

Reckognizing a theme in my posts recently? Well, you go figure. Travelling is currently an integral part of my daily life. While I love to get around the country, those ultra-short trips (like a night or so; sometimes no overnight at all) are really stressful.

As you can see in the headline, I arrived in Denver this morning. Will return to Chicago tomorrow night. Get home, sleep, shower, pack a new bag and will leave for the airport again on Wednesday morning to go to Puerto Rico for one night. Thursday night I should be back home and hopefully have a quiet Friday :-)

Next week? No travelling on the calendar so far! Yeah.

Take care everybody.

Still far away from Minneapolis

Monday, 06. August 2007 by traak

I should have fucking driven there. Sitting in the plane for 45 minutes and still taxiing. The pilot just politely informed us that all north and westbound corridors out of o’hare have been closed due to bad weather. He just shut the engines off and now we are sitting on the runway waiting for….? For what actually?

I wanna go home, instead of wasting even more time.

Did I tell you that US air traffic really sucks? And, by the way, it sucks hard.

Guess where I am…

Monday, 06. August 2007 by traak

…yeah. At o’hare airport again. Sitting here with my blackberry, so please excuse my fantastic spelling.

At the moment I’m here every bloody week and none of those flights is on time. Today, though, is one of those extemely bad days. No, not what you think, today the TSA is not the problem. My 55 minute flight to Minneapolis is delayed by 3 hours. Another 3 hours of my life wasted at this wonderful gateway to the world. And I forgot my ipod at home. How much worse can it get?????

I hate travelling in America. It just doesn’t work - at least not when you live in Chicago.

Treason (Death Penalty?)

Sunday, 05. August 2007 by traak

Now it happened, although I said it never will. I bought a Gas Grill. I’m specifically saying “grill”, since it is definitely not a “braai”, nor would it stand the nodded approval of any German fellow. But ya know: “When in Rome do as the Romans do”. And anyway, it’s gonna be way more convenient, won’t it? Will let you know :-)
