Usually, around the end of September, the president of our company invites his leadership team to a multi-day offsite meeting on Martha’s Vineyard. Here are some impressions:

I’m here in Minneapolis at one of my least favorite customers. Actually it’s my 2nd least favorite customer.

I flew in for the day, unsure about what was expected of me. It turns out that there are no expectations at all. I’m sitting in a room with 20 people who are somewhat productively discussing the future of their ERP implementation.

I haven’t been involved with this bunch since August last year, so the amount of value I’m able to add to discussion is pretty close to zero.

Having said that, I’m obviously looking for ways to avoid falling asleep. What could be more entertaining than surfing the intrawebs?? If it wasn’t for the fact that there isn’t any wi-fi in sight, that is exactly what I’d be doing. Well, instead I’m writing this post from my Blackberry and have to fiddle around with this stupid mini-browser.

I guess it’s a good thing that my presence at this meeting only costs slightly more than 3000 bucks. What a bargain.

Yes, again. It’s that time of the year again. Time for FKOM. And it usually happens in the cultural center of the US :-)

Here are some very bad quality pictures. The iPhone really sucks, when taking pics in low light conditions. But anyway, better than nothing.

As usual, I didn’t really get outside, except for a brief walk on Tuesday night. We stayed in the Venetian this time, which was very, very nice. And, I won 400 bucks at the Blackjack table - Vegas, Baby ;-)

Man koennte es sich einfach machen, in den naechsten Baumarkt fahren und sich dort einen Baum kaufen. Oder man koennte es sich noch einfacher machen und einen kuenstlichen, bereits geschmueckten Baum kaufen! Nein, niemals - wir nicht :-)

Wir fahren nach Wisconsin, ca. 1,5 Stunden noerdlich von Chicago. Wir sind zusammen mit Virgil, Daniela und ihrer Tochter Alexandra gefahren. Und es war ein wirklich schoener Tag. Strahlend blauer Himmel, -5 Grad und ca. 50cm Neuschnee! So, stelle ich mir weisse Weihnachten vor!

Beim aufraeumen bin ich heute ueber eine ganze Menge Bilder gestolpert, die ich ueber Monate hinweg mit meinem Blackberry gemacht habe. Die Qualitaet ist demenstprechend schlecht - jedoch ist die ein oder andere nette Erinnerung dabei.

Wie gesagt, eine lose Sammlung, ohne allzuviel Ordnung :-)

Hallo Leute.

Gerade haben wir das Labor Day Wochenende hinter uns gebracht. Und das bedeutet, dass wir tatsaechlich einen Feiertag hatten. Diese sind naemlich schwer zu finden in Amerika. Also muss man jeden einzelnen geniessen.

Wie schon vor ein paar Tagen erwaehnt, sind wir in die Hauptstadt geflogen, um uns Blasen zu laufen, um dann die ein oder andere Sehenwuerdigtkeit zu betrachten. Unser Hotel war nur einen Steinwurf vom Weissen Haus entfernt (ca. 4 Blocks) Von dort aus ist es natuerlich nicht sehr weit zur “National Mall”. Das ist der Streifen, der sich vom Capitol (vgl. Bundestag) auf der einen, zum Lincoln Denkmal auf der anderen Seite zieht. Dazwischen, oder besser gesagt, in diesem Streifen, gibt es all die beruehmten Dinge zu sehen. Das Washington Monument, Reflection Pool, unzaehlige Museen, Vietnam, Korea und 2. Weltkrieg Denkmaeler usw. Um das Capitol herum, findet man dann noch den Bundesgerichtshof (Supreme Court), die Kongress-Buecherei (dort, wo die Unabhaengigkeitserklaerung ausgestellt ist) und vieles mehr.

Auf dem Weg zurueck zum Hotel, sind wir zufaelligerweise am FBI Gebaeude vorbeigestolpert. Andere interessante “Dinge”, die wir entweder besichtigt haben, oder an denen wir wenigstens vorbeigefahren sind: Watergate Complex, der nationale Zoo, Chinatown, und der Soldatenfriedhof “Arlington Cemetery”. Hier liegen ueber 300,000 Soldaten und deren Angehoerige. U.a. liegt hier JFK, samt Frau und Kindern und einige andere Beruehmtheiten.Auf dem Weg zurueck zum Flughafen, haben wir noch im Luft- und Raumfahrtmuesum halt gemacht. Unter anderem steht dort das Space Shuttle “Enterprise” und jede Menge andere Flugzeuge aus verschiedensten Epochen. Mit Sicherheit ein Highlight des Wochenendes.

Funny that I’ve been at heathrow so many times but never been in the actual city of the queen.

This is where I currently am, waiting for my connection to Germany. Will be there for a mere 2 days before heading back the land of George W.

Reckognizing a theme in my posts recently? Well, you go figure. Travelling is currently an integral part of my daily life. While I love to get around the country, those ultra-short trips (like a night or so; sometimes no overnight at all) are really stressful.

As you can see in the headline, I arrived in Denver this morning. Will return to Chicago tomorrow night. Get home, sleep, shower, pack a new bag and will leave for the airport again on Wednesday morning to go to Puerto Rico for one night. Thursday night I should be back home and hopefully have a quiet Friday :-)

Next week? No travelling on the calendar so far! Yeah.
